The 5 posts you really shouldn't have missed
Looking back at Africa: The Big Deal's most popular articles
We know a lot of you are quite assiduous readers of the newsletter, but we also know it’s hard to keep up sometimes. So this week, we thought it’d be good to highlight our best-performing posts to date, just to be 100% sure you haven’t missed them. Here we go then:
#5 - “🧨 1 billion USD in 7 (yes, seven!) weeks” (Feb ‘22) - Generally speaking, posts celebrating milestones get shared around quite a bit. They also get outdated real fast as the pace of fundraising increases. In fact, since this post the ecosystem has already crossed the $2 billion mark…
#4 - “🖋️ Who are the investors signing all these deals?!“ (March ‘22) - A lot of you readers are entrepreneurs (or aspiring entrepreneurs), so it is not so surprising that posts about investors perform quite well. Our recent post about Y Combinator has also seen a lot of traction. We might look into doing more of those in the future ;)
#3 - “Tick... Tick... Boom! Q1 results are in“ (April ‘22) - Of course, being one of our latest posts, it has been pushed to a larger number of subscribers. But that’s not enough to justify its success. In the end it’s probably the right blend of celebrating success, comparing markets, and looking back at historical data.
#2 - “2⃣0⃣2⃣1⃣ in 2⃣1⃣ numbers” (Jan ‘22) - Unsurprisingly, our early January post looking back at ‘hockey stick 2021’ was just the right way to start the year. And progress updates - as I said - tend to be very popular.
Editor’s pick - “This is a man's man's man's world...“ (Jan ‘22) - Though technically not in the Top5, it’s important for us to highlight our posts on gender are attracting more and more attention, which is hopefully a sign of things changing soon... Want more? Check out our latest gender post.
#1 - “Don't we all love a good map?” (Nov’ 21) - The answer to this question is unequivocally “Yes!”. It’s understandable, as maps help compare markets at a glance, and can be easily used on social media or in presentations. Our last post was a map, and it’s doing pretty well already, but we’ll certainly keep bringing you more of them.
That’s it for today, but I feel we’ve giving you quite a bit to explore (: Most of our content is posted in this newsletter but we sometimes share more on social media, so don’t hesitate to follow us on LinkedIn (Max, Maxime) and on Twitter (Maxime, Max). And our deals database remains available to you with a discount, of course. See you next week!
